Choosing a counselor is an important component of the therapeutic process. When you have chosen a counselor whether by referral, insurance, or word of mouth, it is helpful to read up on the counselor’s bio, location, insurance, and theory from which they practice.
One of the things I tell people when they are looking for a counselor is that there is a counselor for everyone but not every counselor is for every person. If you meet with a counselor and don’t feel comfortable, KEEP LOOKING! Having a counselor that you are comfortable with is, in my opinion, one of the most important aspects of the therapeutic process.
