Well the year is well on it’s way and there seems to be “something” in the air for those of us living in and around Orlando. I think it started off with the Daytona 500 race, then Bike Week, 3 weeks of spring break, traffic (need I say more?), Easter/Passover, summer heat and now April 15th is right around the corner.
One of the things that I have noticed is that people are feeling a bit more on-edge and struggling to make coping skills effective. For those of you who remember the cartoon “The Jetson’s” and their dog Astro who is on a tread mill, and then it gets ahead of him, he falls and then is just caught going around and around on the tread mill….does that feel familiar?
Here are a few things to help with the over stressed feeling that seems to be in the air….
1. Find some time for yourself everyday. Even if it is 10 minutes to talk to someone, take some deep breaths, make a phone call to someone important instead of texting them knowing you don’t have time to talk.
2. Take the never-ending “to-do” list that kicks into high gear when you are trying to fall asleep at night and write it all down. You can organize it later into manageable “bites” so it is not so over-whelming.
3. Once a week try and doing something that is relaxing or enjoyable for you. Schedule it in if you have to: read on Wednesday night, play golf on Saturday, take a bath, watch a television program without mult-tasking or anything else that is relaxing to you.
4. Take time to smell the “roses”…we miss so much on our way to getting “somewhere”
5.. Remember that taking care of yourself is important and you are worth it!
It is never to late to be happier and more content in your life…start today!
