No, I am not referring to the song by Queen and Bowie but an overall feel of life right now. I notice all around people are feeling pressurized…find a job (or a better job), figure their relationship out (with some kind of time limit, no matter how long they have been unhappy), perfect New Years resolutions, and suddenly have all the tools and insight to figure their whole life out.
I believe it is the time of year. There are quota/new quarter pressures at work, school, resolutions, a new year and there seems to be an enormous amount of pressure on people. I know this is MUCH easier said than done, but try to breathe and slow down. There is no race, no destination and you may be missing out on the process of the journey. You may say..”yeah, but no one else is _______________ ( fill in the blank)” and to that I would reply…(and oh how this will make my parents proud!) “If your friends were going to jump off a bridge, does that mean you have to?” For those of you old enough to remember the famous parental answer to everything, it really is great advice. Figure out what works for you (obviously, there are work requirements) and try it. Society often teaches us to keep up with the Jones’s (does any body know who they are? are why are we keeping up with them?) and I know that pressure can be strong.
So, try and take a step back, take a breath, ask yourself what you are in such a hurry to do, and re-evaluate the race you are running.
